Where to Watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Colombo: BYOB Spots with Big Screens

Where to Watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Colombo: BYOB Spots with Big Screens

The World Cup is down to the last few nights, and Colombo is not sleeping through it.

Here is the problem though. Every remaining match kicks off at 12.30AM our time. That means Tuesday night is really Wednesday morning, and if you are watching at home on a laptop with the volume down so the neighbours don't complain, you are doing it wrong.

Good news is a bunch of BYOB spots around Colombo are opening late, throwing the match on a big screen, and letting you bring your own bottle. No bar markup, no overpriced beer tower, just you, the gang, and whatever you picked up from the supermarket on the way.

Here is every spot we know of that is showing the football.

1. Mintage Restaurant - Kotte

Mintage has been running World Cup screenings right through the tournament, not just for the big nights. If you have been following the whole thing from the group stage, you probably already know this place. Open courtyard, easy crowd, and close enough to Kotte and Battaramulla that you are not doing a 40 minute drive home at 3AM.

  • ๐Ÿ“ Address: 254 Pitakotte - Talawatugoda Road, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte

  • ๐Ÿ“ž Reservations: 076 643 5265

  • ๐Ÿบ Bring: Your own bottle, as always

  • โšฝ Screening: World Cup matches live, right through to the end of the tournament

2. The Governor's Grill & Pub - Kottawa

Governor's is opening specially for the football, which tells you how seriously they are taking it. Doors from around 12.30AM and they will keep going till about 3AM. Proper late night football pub energy, big screen, and the High Level Road location makes it an easy one for anyone out towards Kottawa, Maharagama or Pannipitiya.

  • ๐Ÿ“ Address: High Level Road, Makubura, Kottawa

  • ๐Ÿ“ž Reservations: 077 300 3737

  • ๐Ÿบ Bring: Your own bottle

  • โšฝ Screening: Big screen, late night doors specifically for the football

3. Area 56

Area 56 is already one of the better rooftop hangouts in the city, and they are putting the match up on a big screen with the sound properly loud. Food and drinks are sorted on their end, you bring the bottle. Rooftop plus a late night football crowd is a combination that does not need much selling.

  • ๐Ÿ“ž Reservations: Check the listing page for contact details

  • ๐Ÿบ Bring: Your own bottle, food and mixers available there

  • โšฝ Screening: Big screen, live and loud

4. Wave Bolgoda - Moratuwa

Wave is doing this properly. Football Fever kicks off from 12AM onwards, and they have two private lounges you can take over if you are rolling with a group of 8 to 15. No venue fee, corkage free, so the only thing you are paying for is the food and whatever you brought yourself.

Only catch is it is reservations only, and the lounges are limited. If you are planning a group thing, this is the one you call today, not tomorrow.

  • ๐Ÿ“ Address: No. 14/4H, Upper Indibedda, Moratuwa

  • ๐Ÿ“ž Reservations: 076 758 8143

  • ๐Ÿบ Bring: Your own bottle, corkage free

  • โšฝ Screening: Football Fever from 12AM, 2 private lounges for groups of 8 to 15, no venue fee

  • โš ๏ธ Note: Reservations only, book ahead

5. Pearl Beach Paradise - Marine Drive

Pearl Beach is showing the football on the big screen right through the closing rounds, including the one everybody actually cares about. Marine Drive location, sea breeze, and a crowd that will absolutely be shouting at the screen at 2AM. If you want the loud communal version of watching the match, come here.

  • ๐Ÿ“ Address: No. 81/A, Ramakrishna Road, Marine Drive, Colombo 06

  • ๐Ÿ“ž Reservations: 077 777 8410 / 077 224 2446

  • ๐Ÿบ Bring: Your own bottle, corkage free

  • โšฝ Screening: Live on the big screen, including the final

6. Gators Pub & Restaurant - Thalawathugoda

Gators is on the football too. Their poster keeps it short and simple, so give them a call to confirm exactly which nights they are opening for and how late they are running. Solid pub setup out in Thalawathugoda and one of the highest rated spots on our map, so it is worth the phone call.

  • ๐Ÿ“ Address: Thalawathugoda

  • ๐Ÿ“ž Reservations: Check the listing page for contact details

  • ๐Ÿบ Bring: Your own bottle

  • โšฝ Screening: Showing the closing rounds, call ahead to confirm timings

Yes, the dates look confusing. Semi Final 1 is on Tuesday night. You go out Tuesday evening, the match starts after midnight, and technically it is Wednesday. Don't be the guy who shows up on the wrong night.

Surviving a 12.30AM Kickoff

  • Book now, not at 11PM. These are the biggest football nights of the year and half of these spots are reservations only. Tables are going fast.

  • Buy your bottle before the shops close. Supermarket liquor counters are not open at midnight. Sort this in the evening.

  • Check the closing time. Some places are opening specially for the match and running till 3AM. Others may wrap earlier. One phone call saves you a wasted trip.

  • Plan the ride home. It is 3AM, you have been drinking, and PickMe surge is real. Decide who is driving or who is booking before the match, not after.

  • Take the Wednesday off if you can. Two semis on back to back nights is a lot. Be honest with yourself.

Whichever way it goes, this is the last week of it. Grab the bottle, grab the gang, find your spot on byobsl.com and lock the table in before someone else does.

Last updated: July 2026. Screening plans and timings can change, so always confirm with the restaurant before you head out.
